I'd also be VERY happy if he's better than Moses and probably quite surprised
Can't imagine many have actually seen him play

Re: Your Best XI

7mil is pocket change these days......about average for a promising championship player when you think of what Fulham paid for the fella from Leeds 11M and what burnley paid for the fella from Brentford 9M
7mill certainly doesn't suggest he's nailed on good enough for the big league

Re: Your Best XI
Thought it was a free. Didn't realise was a pre contract. Point still valid though regarding the expense of the transfers plays a part in what role of the squad they will take up. As does age.

Still carry on nitpicking....

Hendrie was free? Blimey the things people make up every day on here.

Imo we haven't played that formation yet.

When he's back I'd like to see Valencia as one of the 3 as that then gives the chance to switch to a straight 442 without using a sub

Re: Your Best XI
>>> I don' think we will or should have a best XI as such as the best XI and formation will change depending who we play

Interesting topic. It seems to me that the better teams set up their best 11 in their system and play that to an extent against most oppositions.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Palace, Everton, Bournemouth, Swansea, Southampton do that. I think it's easier for them to say they have a solid best 11 that the club tries to stick with barring fitness and small tweaks.

Allardyce's best season we had that too - a pretty clear best 11. 4-5-1, big man up front, Nolan behind. Diame and Noble in midfield. Collins and Reid at the back.

I wonder if Bilic will be a tweaker or whether he just ideally wants to play the same each week. Hard to say as his selections have been slightly forced so far. He switched the formation a bit for Liverpool, so maybe it will be horses for courses.

If we persist with 4-2-3-1 then the 3 of

MOSES - PAYET - ANTONIO

... looks very interesting

Re: Your Best XI
Yes but when one is a free transfer in the middle of july and one is £7 million on deadline day you can make a pretty good assumption

Mr Polite 4:44 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
The point as you well know was that some players are brought in to be part of a squad. You like me have no idea how Bilic views them so not point pretending you do

Re: Your Best XI
Polite

Both free's

Moses and Antonio were considerably more expensive, money that i dont believe would of been spent unless they are considered to be in or very close to the starting 11

Re: Your Best XI
Egg

The discussion was about Antonio and Moses......

Do i think Jelavic is better then Carroll.....well at the moment yes, Carroll has had a lot of serious injuries and a long long spell out. Every time he comes back from injury he isnt as good as before so at the moment i wouldnt know how to judge him. Its for him to come and earn that starting spot again, not be gifted it because he is the record signing.

Mr Polite 4:38 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
Randolph is better than Adrian? Hendry than Cresswell?

Eggbert Nobacon 4:35 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
do you think he feels Jelavic is better than Sakho and Carroll?

Moses and Antonio yes I'd agree are better than our other wide men (we don't really have any tho Payet, Lanzini and Valencia can oplay ther)

But again if he wants to play narrow then they still won't get in

Rossal 4:33 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
Hardly, Bilic must believe they are better then what he has otherwise he wouldn't of wanted to sign them

Mr P

but as I said I don' think we will or should have a best XI as such as the best XI and formation will change depending who we play

Alex V 4:13 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
>>> Why after scoring and making a goal would it be fair to drop Lanzini?

That wasn't the question asked. It was for a best 11, not necessarily 'what would you play against Newcastle'.

As fans we have even more imperfect information on who is the best than coaches or managers do. Guesswork and personal interpretation is required to pick a 'best' anything.

Mr Polite 4:12 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
This is a thread about people's opinion of the best XI isn't it? Not who should start the next game.

Rossal 4:11 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
They might start as their must be the belief they are better

Otherwise why bring them in in the first place ?

Moses for Lanzini makes sense for me, wont be playing on the counter so much and i think Moses offers more ability to beat a man and some width

Eggbert Nobacon 4:10 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
will change game by game depending on wether we home or away, the other team play wide or narrow etc etc etc

Monday I would go

..................Randolph

Jenks Reid Ogbonna Cresswell

Kouyate Obiang

Moses Payet Lanzini

Sakho
